  1. Aug 22,  · Yeah, this is my favorite so far. ****1/2 #5. Sounds like a bit of Middle Eastern influences here. Guitar, bass, trumpet and alto sax, with congas and some other percussion. Almost sounds like the stuff John McLaughlin did with Shakti back in the 70's. They rhythm is relentless. The trumpet doesn't do a whole lot. Nice change of pace. ***1/2 #6.

Four years ago, the last time Miles Davis was blindfold-tested, I remarked that he was "unusually selective in his listening habits." The only record that drew a favorable reaction was one by Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto, which brought a five-star rave.

  3. I really enjoyed this topic - a great idea to do the blindfold test and great to find a shop that will give you so much time. Your post made me think about my own experience. A couple of years ago I finally had enough free cash to buy a high end guitar - I bought a Collings h- until then I had always played much cheaper models.

  4. 10" LP. Best From The West: Modern Sounds From California Vol. 2 is a very unique LP. First, it is one of the few Blue Note records featuring West Coast jazz musicians as the label's primary focus was decidedly on the East Coast jazz scene. Second, it is a part of a two-LP set which constituted a "blindfold test" for the record-buying public.

  6. This Blue Note release returns to its original 10" vinyl. The musicians initially weren’t listed, and this was presented as sort of a guessing game, but they include Conte Candoli, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Jimmy Giuffre and more of the West Coast’s best, playing "Santa Anita," "Santa Monica," "Hooray for Hollywood," "Culver City" and "The Blind Fold Test Nos. 1 & 2.".
